Abstract

Nowadays, the rise of Asian powers and its effect on the global balance of power is a prioritized research topic in the framework of international and security studies. In addition, South Asia is a special site of this process. The great power ambitions of India, the Chinese-Pakistani defence industrial cooperation or the balancing of the other states of the region makes South Asia a very dynamic arena of the power struggle. This study, based on the Military Balance+ database and other sources, analyses the equipment status of the South Asian countries’ armed forces by branches, and defines the main development trends of the last decade as well as future prospects.
