Abstract

In case of the United States of America the President, the National Security Council and the Department of Defence represent the political part of the strategic level decision making and planning process. By producing wide range of strategic documents and coordinating the use of instruments of national power to achieve national objectives, they provide strategic giudance to the Unified Commands at the military strategic level, and also to the Joint Task Forces at the operational level. The Joint Strategic Planning System is used for security cooperation and force planning purpose, while the Adaptive Planning and Execution System is mainly for operational planning.
