Abstract
Choosing this topic was inspired by events of France’s recent past: in November 2015, a European state was attacked for the first time by the flagrant terrorist group called the Islamic State. This terrorist aggression made France to introduce state of emergency; which step has been disputed not only inside France, but it has induced significant international reactions as well. The study shows the background of French legal regulation, the previous cases when this special legal order was used in French history, and it also analysis nowadays’ French happenings concerning the prolongation of state of emergency. However, the process has been still ongoing, and question is what kind of solution Paris will be able to find after the expiration of the second three month-long period: dealing with the problem by constitutional amendment, or again the French will face another prolongation.
