The Military Potential of Russia’s Western Military District

Abstract

The author aims at giving an analytical assessment of the military forces deployed in Russia’s Western Military District, emphasizing the offensive potential of these forces in case of a hypothetical military conflict in the region. Through comparing the military force structures and assets in the four Russian military districts, the analysis answers the question whether Russian forces in the region could mean real and credible threat to NATO members on the Alliance’s Eastern flank, more specifically in the Baltics.
