What is the Right Number? The Number of Employees in the Private Security Industry Who Are Directly Involved in Internal Security Activities

Abstract

The paper seeks to answer the question of how many employees of the private security industry are directly involved in defending the internal security of our society. Answering this, the paper reviews the total number of employees working for domestic private security companies. The assumed task at first seems to be simple but – due to the various distortions of the available official statistics – in practice it generates some difficulties. In order to be able to answer the research question, the paper – using estimations and alternative solutions – tries to overcome these difficulties.
