Abstract

On March 22, 2017 – on the one-year anniversary of the Brussels terrorist attacks – another attack took place in London downtown. Based on the available information the 52 years old Khalid Masood (born as Adrian Russell), born in Kent, carried out a ramming attack at 14.40 local time in the pedestrian zone of Westminster Bridge using a Hyundai van (killing three and wounding another 50, seven among them seriously). After this he tried to enter the building of the Parliament, lethally wounding the police officer who was trying to stop him, using a knife. The perpetrator was eventually shot and killed by police officers guarding the Parliament. The article offers an analysis of the Westminster attack in the British and European context of terrorist threat.
