The Western Campaigns of the Huns in Written Sources from the Migration Period and in Hungarian Gesta and Chronicle Literature

Abstract
In this work, I examine the western campaigns of the Huns in the Migration Period, and Medieval Hungarian chronicles. The methodology of the research can be summarized as follows: first, I describe the Migration Period and then the Hungarian stories of the western Hunnic campaigns. After that, I perform a comparative analysis of the two sets of stories in chronological order. This way, the reader can also check my analysis as well. During the comparison, I succeeded in identifying the real historical figures behind the heroes of our chronicles (Macrinus, Detre), as well as the various Hunnic campaigns and the locations related to them (e.g. Belvider, the question of Croatian campaigns). I conclude the work by drawing my conclusions. In this chapter, I reject the previous views that out Hunnic stories were copied or invented by Hungarian authors, and I rather take a stand in favour of their originality.
