Abstract
The concept of competence is manifold, however, its role in effective work is unquestionable. The research into the area has decades of history, which has resulted in the development of diverse methods and the widening of the definition of the concept. The current research interprets competence as an element of organisational socialisation. Competence, as a determining factor of the institution– person interaction, contributes to the success of new entrants’ integration. The research – with exploratory nature – presents 18 competences, which appear among the future leader staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces. It also highlights such employee needs, beyond professional competences, that derive from the specific features of the special focus group. The analysis of the employees’ side highlights the necessity to word the pure – suited to the target group – expectations, and raises the demand for developing alternative possibilities for the future.
