Abstract
In my study I summarise the major changes of the martial arts in the First World War, with an emphasis on the emergence of new types of weapons and the gathering of
lessons to be learned. The years of the First World War were marked by the immobility and motionless trench warfare not taking into account the short moving war of 1914. The rapid economic development of the Western powers and the growth of the population made it possible to use the modern technology. This led to the unfolding of the material war. The success of the Triple Alliance is mainly due to the usage of tanks and planes. On the German side the direct cause of the capitulation is primarily the collapse and exhaustion of the support of the hinterland and society.
