Abstract
In recent years, the importance of the ability to move forces has greatly increased. The reception, staging and onward movement of forces (RSOM) has also increased in value at the NATO alliance level, mainly due to the new security challenges. Russia’s operations (the annexation of Crimea, large-scale mobilisations and exercises, the conflict in eastern Ukraine) have prompted the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, in response, to increase its ability to deploy forces through the implementation of the experiences of various exercises, training events and developments. Experience to date shows that Hungary can play an active role in moving forces from the Staging Area to the Area of Operation. In this article, the authors discuss Hungary’s role in NATO RSOM and crisis response operations according to practical experience.
