The Declaration of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a Terrorist Organisation

Abstract

In April 2019, the United States of America classified the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Iran as a terrorist organisation, after they allegedly destabilised the Middle East region and secretly supported and funded countless armed terrorist organisations, under the order of the Iranian government. This paper will follow the history of the relationship of these two countries, focusing on conflicts until the declaration. We examine the basis of how some countries can declare one of the official armed forces of a sovereign country as a terrorist organisation.
