Anti-Terrorist Operations in the Sinai Peninsula

doi: 10.32563/hsz.2019.4.7

Abstract

The Arab Spring fronted the Egyptian Government with deep and complex confrontations. The Sinai insurgency needed broad-scale tools to stop the activities of the radical organisations, and these tools are formed until today to handle the crisis. The insurgency erupted because of the shiftless living conditions. The following Egyptian governments tried many tools (blocking the roads, making blockhouses, shutting down the Internet), but the terror organisations were flexible and they attacked the weaker points and made suicide bombings. Smaller organisations evolved in the cities and they used smaller bombing operations. The government had to use complex solutions against these organisations.
