Aspects of Modernity of 40/43M Zrínyi II Assault Howitzer

Abstract

The teoretical ground of assault artillery in European art of war was created after the first world war. Through experiences from the battlefield field-artillery was not satisfying to supporting of assault of infantry. So it was necessary to create an ordnance piece which can support the success of assault with direct laying. In the first years of second world war every warfaring country manufactured an own assault howitzer whatʼs role was in the beginning to destroy dangerous objects for infantry as machine gun pits, armoured vehicles, bunkers. Than the usage of assault howitzers changed more and more and became mostly anti-tank devices.
