Excerpts from Results of Materials Testing of Finds from Site of Zrínyi-Újvár

Abstract

During the last decade, as a result of archeology researches many finds had been found at the site of Zrínyi-Újvár. These finds represent curiosity not only from the point of view of military history, but from the point of view of archaeometallurgy as well.
    The majority of these finds – include cannon balls, mortar bombs, musket balls – belong to the siege of fortress happened in 1664 by Ottoman Empire. 
    The primary aim of the testings was to gain information about the materials and techological methods, techniques of the certain finds by chemical analysis, as well as macro-, and microstructural testings.
    In 2018 the tests had been widened by the examinations of new finds, these new finds – musket balls, nails – turned up from the well of the fortress, excavated in 2017.
    This study is about to present the results of the testings have been done till now.
