HR Supply Management Challenges in the Hungarian Public Service
Abstract
There is a worldwide competition to attract and retain talented professionals. There is no coherent HR supply management system in the Hungarian public administration. Staffing becomes more of a challenge. Globalization, the expectations of the new generation, the more attractive reward system of the private sector, the deficiencies of the recruitment, selection and compensation system may affect unfavourably the maintenance of the talented professionals of public administration in the long run. Due to this fact, the public service may significantly drop behind in the on-going fight for skilled high potentials. This article examines the supply management strategy of the Hungarian public administration, including the measures and challenges. It analyses the opportunities offered by the present civil service career and how it influences the recruitment policy. It concludes with some ideas about the future development of this professional discipline. It suggests some possible methods that could be applied to make public service more attractive for young talents.
