Abstract
The study aims to take stock of Russia’s loss in military equipment as well as its available stockpile to answer how long Moscow will be able to pursue its war against Ukraine. While the prolonged war favors the side that has superior resources, with the conscious employment of the strategy of exhaustion the weaker party can turn attrition to its favor. Its massive military potential enabled Moscow to wage a protracted and high intensity war with its neighbor once the plan of “special military operation has failed. However, the past two and a half years has depleted its military stockpile significantly. The huge equipment reserves it has in store still allow Russia to compensate for its losses for many years in theory. But it is likely that large part of its equipment is not in the condition to be reactivated.
