Abstract
In the Republic of South Africa, national and provincial parliamentary elections were held on May 29, 2024. This was the seventh such voting since the end of the apartheid system, so one can speak of an „established” system, moreover, the previous six elections were won by one party, the African National Congress (ANC), each with an absolute majority. The special significance of the current vote was that the ANC performed even worse than previously expected, although it received the most votes, but was forced into a coalition. The composition of the coalition that is currently being formed will have a decisive influence on the country’s future, there will be an opportunity to correct the by far not completely successful domestic policy of the last 30 years, and serious shifts are expected in foreign policy as well.
