Afghanistan in the Changing International System

Abstract

The objective of this article is to give a comprehensive overview of the major changes that have occurred in the security situation of Afghanistan and its implications for the wider region. After a short review of the political, economic and humanitarian situation the author will detail the specificities of the security situation in Afghanistan, the trends in this field as well as the threats emanating from the territory of Afghanistan. The article will focus on two major players: the United States and Pakistan, both of which perceive threats to their security interests due to the ongoing events in Afghanistan.
