Abstract
The leading political, military and economic power of the world, the United States will hold presidential elections on November 8, 2017. Even though Hungary has been a member state of NATO since 1999, the United States had already been a leading actor in shaping the military stability of Central Europe since the change of regimes period, and especially following the break-up of Yugoslavia. U.S. – Hungarian relations in the political, economic and defense fields have developed significantly during the past 25 years, thus the two countries have become allies. We have experienced frictions and disagreements over political and economic issues between the U.S. and Hungarian governments since the beginning of the new millennium at the time of subsequent Orbán governments and the second Gyurcsány-government as well. The author offers a snapshot of Hungarian public opinion on U.S. – Hungarian relations and the presidential election of 2016 based on the opinion poll carried out by ZRI Závecz Research Ltd.
