Abstract
By the analysis of the conflict in South Sudan our paper demonstrates the complexity and challenges of crisis management in the developing world. Ending civil war between the dinka-ethnic President, Salva Kiir and his former nuer Vice President, Riek Machar is problematic not only because of the reluctance of the two politicians but also the deeper structural weaknesses of the state which enhance the perception of zero-sum game and short-term gains. Therefore there is no end in sight the prolonged civil war which killed tens – if not hundreds – of thousands of people and displaced at least two million inhabitants.
