Abstract
NATO’s latest summit of heads of state and government took place on July 8–9, 2016 in Warsaw. Preliminary expectations towards the meeting included conducting an implementation summit based on the decisions undertaken in 2014 in Newport on reinforcing collective defence capabilities. The summit was to check upon and create a balance of the execution of measures reinforcing reaction, collective defence and deterrence capabilities, the increase of defence spending and the intensification of military modernisation. However, there was more at stake in Warsaw – the political, military and economic credibility of NATO.
