Abstract

The study evaluates the Iraqi Kurdish independence referendum which was held on 25 September 2017. It introduces the possible motivations behind the timing of the Kurds’ decision and the Iraqi Government’s response to the referendum. The analysis examines the political and economic factors which led to a very difficult situation for the Kurds after the referendum.
