Abstract
The study examines the change in Turkey’s role in NATO with regard to the changed security environment (the end of the Cold War, globalization, the intensification of international terrorism and the European immigration crisis), international legal considerations and the gradual spread of neo-Ottoman foreign policy, which aspects are particularly well illustrated in the steps taken by Turkey in the Syrian conflict, which also largely determine Hungary’s security policy. The study concludes that Turkey remains an important and committed member of NATO, independent of its own foreign policy.
