„Absurdity”, or: the Legal and Organizational Basis of the Reorganization of Hungarian Military Secret Services after 1945

Abstract

The study analyzes the reorganization of the Hungarian state security structure after World War II. During the period covered, following their classical task the intelligence and counter-intelligence bodies were integrated, but separated on military and civilian areas of competence. The depositary of military secret services after 1945 was the MoD. Military Political Department. The formation of the organization verified by investigative work on war crimes and crimes against the people of the temporary armistice agreement. Behind the legal bases it was only a political decision to build on the principles of the agreement referred to create the organizational bases of military secret service.
