Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide effective responses to the riskful new security challenge of weapons policing professional field. This security challenge is due to the lack of control over 3D printing technology, which is a potential opportunity for the illicit manufacture of firearms and ammunition. This study presents the development of 3D printing technologies and the current and future application of some of its guidelines. 3D printed firearms are presented, which are poses a significant security risk for commission of criminal offenses and the attack ability of critical objects. This study examines the problem of the legislative steps required by 3D printing technology primarily from the aspect of legal regulation of weapons. The study examines the potential for official online registration of 3D printers in the context of the European Agenda on Security: EU action plan against illicit trafficking in and use of firearms and explosives.
