Three Decades of Military Counterintelligence

doi: 10.32561/nsz.2020.1.6

Abstract

The events of the regime change that took place three decades ago still determine our lives. The procedures that have passed since then provide an opportunity to review how actions and ongoing processes of that time have influenced our country’s political, social or even legislative proceedings. The events that happened thirty years ago have brought significant changes in almost every field, including the Hungarian secret services. This is a transition period from the state security period to the national security era. The retrospection has a great significance for all actors in today’s national security system, as it can provide an opportunity to analyse the boundaries of state security and national security activities. Recalling a generation-long range of recent history gives a complex picture in the view of the national security system as a whole, but it may also be possible to survey specific subareas separately. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the study addresses the last thirty years of Hungarian military counterintelligence.
