Abstract

Anniversaries always provide us the occasion to face with things beyond the formality of retrospect and to evaluate experiences of the past. We all live with a historical sense, however the whirl of our everyday life tries to carry away the time arching into the future: the never resting present. Even if we stand still after all, and decide to face things, we may have the opportunity to grasp the golden fade of many coincidental adventures lighting up even the far-off milestones of the road forward. The heavier the burden of the past is, the clearer and the far-off we can see. And not because we are standing on the shoulders of giants – as Bernard de Chatres understood – but because in the memory of our inherited fears our visual perception is clearer, our will
is stronger, our charges will be more faithful.
