A Five-Year Review of the Results of NAIH’s Freedom of Information Monitoring Activities

Abstract

The National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) is responsible for the supervision of rights related to data protection and freedom of information in Hungary. However, there have been few comprehensive evaluations of the activity of the Hungarian supervisory authority, and the literature also mainly deals with the decisions made in priority cases. This is especially true in the area of freedom of information, where – apart from the NAIH annual reports – there is few serious analytical work available. As the (former) head of the Freedom of Information Department, the author attempts to review the results and strategic points achieved between 2018–2023, which were important from the point of view of both the supervisory activity and the development of this specific constitutional right.
