Establishment of the Constitutional Monarchy and Development of the Parliamentary Form of Government in Denmark

Abstract
In the history of Denmark that had been government with absolutistic means since the 1660s, 1848 brought a decisive change similar to what happened in the contemporary Hungary. The Danish monarch appointed a responsible government, then he convoked a constituent assembly based on rules of franchise close to universal male suffrage. The convention adopted a written constitution establishing a constitutional monarchy resembling the Norwegian and Belgian models. After the wars for the duchies of Schleswig and Holsten, for half-a-century long there was a strange attempt of an aristocratic version of parliamentarianism,
but in 1901 parliamentary democracy was finally accepted. This study presents that period in Danish constitutional history when the Kingdom of Denmark has become one of the model countries of European parliamentary democracy.
