Abstract

Katalin Szoboszlai-Kiss’ recently published work entitled ’Alvó demokrácia’ is a kind of summary of the classical political thought and first of all the history of the Athenian democracy. ’Alvó demokrácia’ in Hungarian means ’sleeping democracy’, and that is why I entitle my book review ’Is the noble horse sleeping?’ (’A nemes paripa aluszik?’), in consonance with Szoboszlai-Kiss’ work. The main part of the book provides an analysis of the final days of the Athenian democracy, in my opinion that is the relevant chapter in that work: Szoboszlai-Kiss draws some important conclusions, she observes some correspondence between classical and modern democracy not just in organisation system but in problems and in solutions as well.
