Prospective Opportunities for the Training and Selection of Air Traffic Controllers Using XR Technology Supported by Human Performance Diagnostics

Abstract

The increase in air traffic puts an increased burden on air traffic controllers, and more and more
people are needed. Traditional training methods are not always suitable for objectively measuring
the success and training progress of candidates, and we assume that one of the keys to success is
the individual’s performance under increased stress. In our research, we examined, among other
things, the relationship between stress and performance using XR-based simulation and human performance diagnostic measurements. The results are promising, but studies on a larger sample are needed for the wider introduction of the method.
