Fears of Flying: Theoretical Background

Abstract

The author gives a review on formation of emotions, particulary on fearful emotions emerging during flying. and besides outlines several aspects of fears of flying, as well as its subjects, anxiety and behavioural linkages. Presenting the possible subjects of aviofhobia and the contrubuting factors of its evolvement both bring closer to deffinition of such a specific fobia like aviophobia and its proper treatment as well. Methodologically it is unavoidable to make measurements on fears during flying with special tools as FAS and FAM scales, which provide a vison of fearful subjects that passengers could encounter on board of an aircraft. In summary the author highlights interrelations among fears subjects and the preception of safety and envisages further research projects on fear of flying topic.
