doi: 10.32560/rk.2021.2.3

Abstract

Nowadays, more than 20,000 artificial objects and debris orbit around the Earth. This number will soon be multiplied because of the mega-constellations. In this article, we examine these effects. We give a review of the main characteristics of mega-constellations and then show some of the major systems and present the main concerns implied by them. We conclude that the current international regulatory environment is inadequate and needs to be reviewed as soon as possible. The updating of the rules on space activities is the fundamental interest of not only all countries but also the players of the sector.
