Calculating the Performance of the Skywalker X8, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Abstract

Nowadays, unmanned aerial vehicles are becoming more and more widespread, and are also capable to perform a wide variety of tasks. The rules of aviation law apply to these vehicles just as much as to all the other vehicles in the air transport. In my thesis, I performed aerodynamic and flight mechanic calculations for the Skywalker X8, an unmanned aerial vehicle. I examined the legal environment regarding unmanned aerial vehicles, determined the conditions of operation, and I also became familiar with the official authorization process. This calculation method can be used in the future for calculations that are needed for the official certification of different types of pilotless planes.
