Abstract
The verification of the aerodrome forecast plays an important role in the aviation meteorology, which gives a feedback to users and even the forecasters on the accuracy of the forecasts. The landing forecast shall indicate significant changes of the forthcoming two hours in respect of one or more of the following elements: surface wind, visibility, significant weather and clouds. The results of the improved verification method, which is based on the Amendment criteria given by ICAO Annex 3, help forecasters to be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the landing forecasts. It should turn the forecasters’ attention to the biggest prognostic challenge.
