Abstract
Up-to-date turbofan engines have increasing bypass ratio and compressor pressure ratio in order to achieve better fuel consumption. These parameters are responsible for increasing propulsive and thermal efficiencies, respectively. While in the recent decades civil turbofans had pressure ratios about 30…35:1 and bypass ratios around 5…6:1, today these values have significantly rised. One of the best selling passenger aircraft is the single aisle Airbus A320. It was reengined recently labelled as „new engine option” abbreviated as „neo”, and it has two advanced engine options from Pratt & Whitney and CFM International. This paper is intended to provide and approximate thermodynamic analysis of the latter, CFM LEAP-1A and it also offers a comparison with the CFM56-5B.
