Abstract
The Fiat Cr.42 is a type in Hungarian and international aviation history that was undeservedly forgotten. As to the characteristics of its design and structure, it is one of the last examples of a period of development that spanned almost three decades. It entered service in Hungary, among other countries, and it performed well in the Royal Hungarian Air Force. However, there are no extant planes, pieces of wreckage of it preserved in Hungary. In 2017 he writer of this article had the opportunity to examine in detail one of the last surviving Fiat Cr.42s, and was able to study its structural and technical details. The plane in the collection of the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom is authentic, and its build is identical to the ones which were used in Hungary.
