Recent State and Future of the European UTM

Abstract

The spread and fast development of the commercial use of unmanned aerial vehicles can easily named as one of the most important technological theme of the decade. The segment has countless key questions which need to be answered globally to provide as save and efficient solution as possible for manned and unmanned aviation. Nowadays, the technological and manufacturer part of the industry is well ahead of the legislative part, which would like to regulate and standardize it. The current article would like to give a complete overview about the recent state and future of the European UTM – Unmanned Aircraft Systems Traffic Management. The spread of different UTM services can give solution for most of the mentioned problems. These type of systems also requires a well-standardized and wellregulated environment to be as effective as it should be. The U-Space concept which initiated by SESAR JU would like make the airspace available for UAVs operating under 500 ft, supported with high level of automation.
