Abstract
The essay endeavours to give its contribution to the forming legal background of the autonomous vehicles. The scale of automation shall be classified and the author also presents a proposal for the introduction of a central legal category: the total capability to participate in traffic. This category shall aid the customer and the legislator to get a clear picture of the capabilities of the autonomous vehicles and the allocation of the liability.
