Abstract

This research examined the job satisfaction of a county police headquarter and the attitude and skills of its leadership. We supposed that the leaders of departments which have lower satisfaction rate, show different behaviour and we can experience difficulties on the organisational level.
The job satisfaction was measured by the ’Index of Organizational Reactions’ questionnaire, the style and attitude of the leadership were evaluated by various questionnaires.
On the basis of the results, there were many correlations between the answers and it became obvious that leaders in higher positions showed significantly better results. Analyzing the received data belonging to various departments leaders revealed that there were only differences in the factor of the ’need for management control’. The correlation between management style and satisfaction could not be shown, because the leaders of the lowest job satisfaction departments were not involved in this study.
We can conclude that job satisfaction is one of the major factors in the organizational culture, so examining the special features of it is essential for education and development of the leaders.
