Abstract
The publication describes the criminal proceedings brought against border guard conscripts who fled the country and were subsequently charged with espionage. The information is based on materials from two archives: the Hungarian National Archives, which holds border guard documents, and the Military History Archives, which houses documents relating to criminal proceedings. the author explores the circumstances of the events (i.e. the escapes abroad and the proceedings initiated), the investigation and court documents produced, the severity of the sentences and, in some cases, the aftermath of the events.
