Abstract
With the end of the Cold War, Japan’s pacifist views began to reshape its national security sector, which has been gradually building up since the early 2000s. For a relatively young national security organisation, it is essential to find allies in the world. This essay examines the potential for Japan to join the Five Eyes alliance. The facts available on Japan’s emergence as a “Sixth Eye” are reviewed. In the course of our analysis, we will examine why Japan has a chance of joining the alliance, and why it is in the interest of the original five members to be the first non-Anglo-Saxon country to become a member. Finally, we will look at the options for the future.
