Abstract

At the beginning of August 1914, spreaded the fake news that French people transport gold to Russia through Hungary by automobiles. In the atmosphere of the war, the news was particular important and besides the authorities, the voluntary civilian people also started to persecute the assumed vehicles. The purpose of the study is to provide an insight into the details of the event, the spread of the fake news, on the basis of Hungarian National Archives relevant Home Office documents.
