From Border Guard Companies to Border Policing Offices
Abstract
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Border Guard after the 2nd World War, the study gives an overview of the border guarding activities conducted since then. It examines the state of affairs at the beginning of a new historical era and the various border guard organisations that first operated simultaneously, subordinated to the Ministry of Defence and to the Ministry of Interior, later as part of the Hungarian State Protection Authority (Államvédelmi Hatóság), then directly subordinated to the Ministry of Interior, while at present border guards work within the Police Force, as the border policing branch of the service. The paper also explores the relationships between the objectives set before the border guarding organisations, their tasks, organisational structure and activities.
