The Establishment and Activities of the Border Guard in the First Few Years (1945—1950)
Abstract
The Border Guard established after the 2nd World War, called the Border Guard of the Hungarian Army, was set up in the spring of 1945. It operated until the end of December 1949. The paper — originally written for the conference commemorating its foundation — discusses the circumstances under which the Border Guard of the Hungarian Army worked. It analyses the contemporary situation, the consequences of the Soviet occupation, the problems caused by the international situation and the conditions for alien policing activities. The author presents how the Border Guard was reorganised several times, as well as the economic conditions that defined its existence.
