The Role of Prison Mission in the Corrections

Abstract

The author examines the role of prison chaplaincy and prison faith mission in the penalty.According to his main findings the role of church goes far beyond the religion practice. However, their role in reintegration is very pronounced. The service of church is not only a religious mission but also a cultural mission. The “cultural mission” term expresses the fact that prison chaplaincy services not only spread religion but they also try to persuade inmates that instead of selfishness and exploitation, an attitude of follow-up reduces the risk of recidivism. This value system is based on the teaching of the Bible, such as: “Do not kill!”, “Do not steal!”, “Do not commit adultery!”, “Love your neighbour as you love yourself!”
