In our society a negative value judgment is linked to lies or deliberate repression of reality.
On the other hand:
“Art is a lie, by which we recognize the truth.” (P. Picasso)

To investigate, from a psychological point of view, what is happening in the brain while lying, defrauding or deceiving, it is imperative to purify the act from any moral context. This paper examines lie in this spirit. Moreover, we present the possibilities of instrumental statement control with the help of the psychology of writing and computer-aided handwriting examination to
uncover lie.

Although rarely applied, instrumental lie detection has a significant role in criminal procedure. The study’s basis is formed by a questionnaire-based empirical research conducted among 100 detectives about the experiences in the detective’s work in connection with reconstruction. We report about the results of a research work launched in 2014 which continues till the present day. We have done a series of experiments in the common research workshop of the ANIMA Polygraph Psychological Consulting Llc., the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, the National Protection Service and the Society of Police Science, involving the students of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary and using the LVA (Layered Voice Analysis) technology for voice analysis; this way we could successfully characterize the types of different lies.
Our results were published in a thematical issue in Psychologia Hungarica Caroliensis.

The aim of the current article is to overview the brain fingerprinting technique, and to show the potential areas of application and limitations in the area of detection of concealed information (hidden memory traces) in the brain. We review the most prominent features of the P300 brainwave, which is at the core of the brain Fingerprinting technique. Since the middle of the 20th century, representatives of social sciences have a keen interest in the effect technology has on society. The same applies to legal science and, more specifically, to the science of criminal proceeding law. Technology and digital devices have multiple noticeable effects on this area of science, including the issue of electronic evidence. The appearance of electronic evidence gives rise to the re-consideration (but not necessarily the re-regulation) of the traditional dogmatic issues associated with proceeding law. This study focuses on how the administration of electronic evidence is regulated in the current and new Hungarian Act on Criminal Proceedings, respectively, as well as on the issues that may arise in connection therewith.

It is almost a quarter of a century since the correctional legislation of 1993 came into effect. The importance of this regulation cannot be stressed enough since its focus was to facilitate Hungary’s entry to the more up-to-date European norms. By analysing the social and legal circumstances of the era, the author presents the most important events of the codification, its provisions and long-term effects. The author concludes by stating that modern correctional philosophy has only had a brief impact on the legal evolution of the relevant fields.

This paper shows some of the most recent forensic genetic methods, such as family searching, ethnic clustering, forensic DNA phenotyping, age estimation and time-of-death estimation. These methods have different legal background and strong ethical limitations. Modern investigations are strongly based on forensic experts, nevertheless the law enforcement, prosecution and court cannot rely on experts all the time. Law enforcement and all members of the judicature shall develop good sense and attitude for the recent digital world, such as the crypto-currencies, virtual properties and cyber-bullying.

The method of speaker recognition has changed significantly in the past decade due to the appearance of voice biometrics. The emergence of voice biometrics was an important landmark in forensic science, at the same time a number of challenges were associated with it. The paper presents the crime situation in three German cities: Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, based on official 2016 crime statistics published by the police. This study is the third phase of the research work executed within the frame of "Good State – Good Law Enforcement” and sums up the results of several years of research. The authors tried to introduce a performance review system that is different from the current one both in its structural aspect and in the indicators it uses. Obviously, the authors agree with the fact that judging the quality and efficiency of policemen’s work performance by means of indicators is extremely difficult. It is not possible to create a clean formula to evaluate the quality of police work.

A tanulmány a Jó Állam – Jó Rendészet kutatás keretében végzett többéves kutatómunka harmadik fázisát mutatja be. A szerzők igyekeznek a jelenlegi teljesítményértékelési rendszertől egy a szerkezetében más szemléletű és más indikátorokat tartalmazó rendszert bemutatni. The police career model was created as part of the civil service and within it, in the law enforcement career. Its major mission is to provide a predictable system of human resources for the police in the long run with a strategic approach. The career path is an integral part of the career path, where higher education is very important. In my paper I present the theoretical background of the development of the police career, the timeliness and justification of the legal regulation. I especially take into consideration the performance management and consider the emphasis of the convergence of life and higher education.

A rendőri életpályamodell a közszolgálati és azon belül is a rendvédelmi életpálya részeként jött létre, azzal a megkérdőjelezhetetlen küldetéssel, hogy stratégiai szemléletet hordozva hosszú távon biztosítsa a rendőrség humánerőforrásának kiszámítható rendszerét. Az életpálya szerves része az előmeneteli rendszer, amelyben kiemelkedő fontossággal bír a felsőoktatás szerepe. Tanulmányomban bemutatom a rendőri életpálya kialakulásának elméleti hátterét, a jogi szabályozás időszerűségét és indokoltságát. Külön foglalkozom a teljesítménymenedzsment jelentőségével, majd az életpálya és a felsőoktatás konvergenciájának hangsúlyos elemeit tekintem át.
