Abstract
Nowadays, it has become obvious that sustainable development might not be reached without the implementation of the circular economy. During the improvement of irrigation, it would be reasonable to pursuit the implementation of the circular economy into the irrigation strategies. One of the key elements of the implementation is water reuse. Society does not manage treated wastewater as a value in every case. However, treated wastewater can be used for irrigation purposes in some water-scarce regions. The development of irrigation has a significant economic role; therefore, the expansion of irrigated areas is a highlighted objective of the Hungarian Government. In this paper, the author examines the topic of water reuse and suggests its integration into irrigation development. His research result and its practical application might facilitate the implementation of the circular economy into irrigation development.
