The Establishment of Voluntary Territorial Defence Reservists’ CBRN Decontamination Capabilities

doi: 10.32567/hm.2021.2.9

Abstract

The number of Hungary’s reserve forces is currently more than 10,000, and their task includes, among other things, disaster management. In case of a potential industrial disaster, there is a huge need to perform CBRN protection tasks that require special training of the personnel. One such extremely important and enormous human resource task could be the CBRN decontamination based on the experiences of the 2010 red mud disaster. Such training is not provided to Voluntary Territorial Defence reservists in the current system, although an event such as the 2020 coronavirus epidemic could occur at any time when this capability would be very useful. This article proposes to develop the reservists’ CBRN protection capability.
