Abstract

Patriotism? Despite being natural and self-evident, it has now become a concept that has been undeservedly ignored or, at worst, stigmatised. The reader certainly asks to which historical age the next writing guides him.
Today, we live in a world where the values created by nations for centuries or thousands of years, and the creative spirit that created and preserved these values for posterity, are in danger. A very complex process that is summarily called globalisation has triggered trends in the fields of society, families and individuals, that adversely affect personality, social relationships and natural selfdefence.
The world has accelerated. Fashion, technology is constantly changing, and so much information is available to anyone that its reception will test the person’s ability to absorb. In this rapidly changing milieu, a sense of patriotism can mean stability, a value system that anyone can rely on in the difficult moments of everyday life.
Do we need to teach patriotism? If so, with what methods? How do other nations do this? The opportunities and methods of the peoples of the world are different, but one of the basic common elements of their motivation is their belief in the value of patriotism and the fact that it offers the answer to several important challenges of the 21st century.
